Last night I witnessed how Adam multiply and divide. Sometimes there is the brilliance and sometimes non or in fact carelessness i saw. The problem of conceptualizing what is +, -, X, / is still vague. So that is the problem to solve. Then when that is done, its the need to understand the question which will be in English. That is thumbs down to the school system which i am questioning what are they teaching our kids ?
Now my missions :-
1. Find the best and easiest way for him to know one number multiplication. The hardest and straight forward way is to remember the time table rote like i did. But is there a better way ?
- the easy exercise to give him is to do simple table and ask him to fill in the blank. It was a surprise to notice that he actually dont know how to use the time table ! Example 2 x 4 = ? , ? x 5 = 10 , 5 x ? = 25 or things like this. He must be good and aware of the number positioning whereever it is. Then dividing will come in. But should he be ask to remember the time table by hard ?
- the concept of what if 3 football teams are in a bus is still vague for adam. Thing is, its either 3 times 1 football team or add 3 football teams together.
2. Teach him the right technique. Notice that the DVD show a different way of doing things on the additioning part. Fortunately that could be digest easily. Not much different than what i use to do but then what did the school teach him ?
When he is OK with multiplication, then division will come second nature. Insyaallah.
